The Milan Furniture Fair Kicks Off in June

The world's largest and – many would say – most prestigious trade fair devoted to the design and production of furniture will be staged in Milan from the 7th to the 12th of June this year. The Salone del Mobile, as the Milan Furniture Fair is more commonly known, was first launched in 1961 and has since become the place to be for all design enthusiasts and professionals working in furniture and furnishings today.

When it first appeared, the trade fair aimed to promote Italian furniture makings and designs to the rest of the world. Nowadays, the exhibition provides a showcase platform for both established design houses and up-and-coming talent from around the world alike.

Thousands of exhibitors now have stands at the trade fair and around half a million or so visitors are expected over the course of the internationally renowned event.

This year's exhibition will see many of the top brands in global furniture design showing off their wares to the industry, many with brand new products to launch. In 2022, exhibitors will include the likes of Backhausen, EgoItaliano, Hosoo and Koh-I-Noor to give visitors an idea of the international nature of the trade fair. Indeed, as well as the many home furnishing producers that will have stands at the exhibition, the way the Salone del Mobile has been set up means that visitors will be able to find exactly the sorts of products that they are most interested in. As well as space devoted to cabinets and storage units, there are parts of the exhibition given over to seat and sofa designs, bathroom ware, beds and kitchenware, among other categories.

Covering a space of some 230,000 square meters at the Milan Fairgrounds, the 2022 iteration of the Salone del Mobile is for registered trade visitors only for the first four days. On the 11th and the 12th of June, the general public can attend, as well, however. One highlight of the show is expected to be a retrospective covering the way furniture designs have been advertised in the past, comparing it to today's marketing. Another will be the number of exhibitors who are expected to display their workstation furnishings, something that will be of special interest to home-office designers and the public alike.

Various speakers have been booked for the trade fair including a number of CEOs and creative directors from some of the world's leading furniture brands. Among the hot topics expected to be discussed are how water saving is affecting bathroom furniture design and the future of lighting in furniture manufacturing.

Further details can be found at the Salone del Mobile's official website.
