A world-famous furniture fair, the Salone del Mobile Milano (the Milan Furniture Fair), is usually held every year to showcase all the novelties of the furniture sector. Renowned for creativity and innovation, the event sends the city in a tailspin for a week with an exhibition space of more than 210,000 m2 in addition to seven events that take place simultaneously and are also available to the non-professional public at the weekend. In 2020, the show was sadly cancelled due to the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic. This year, the anniversary edition is also be postponed, but thankfully not cancelled. Here's the latest news about the upcoming Milan Furniture Fair.
The new dates of the Milan Furniture Fair
The 60th edition of Salone del Mobile Milano will finally take place in 2021 but not on the dates as planned. Usually held in April, this new edition has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The next Milan Furniture Fair will now be held from Sunday 5 to Friday 10 September 2021.
The event is held in a fairground divided into themed areas, such as conferences about the contemporary cultural and creative developments, design student zones, lounges for corporate meetings, food courts, and socialising and relaxation areas. Sustainability and circularity are prioritised so all the display components will be dismantled and recycled. A tree-filled green zone will welcome visitors at the East Gate, and the Forestami project will ensure that the trees will be relocated to central Milan after the event. Meanwhile, Triennale Milano will be the focal point of the “supersalone” city, with numerous cultural offerings incorporating some brand new exhibitions and events.
In fact, the 2021 edition of the Milan Furniture Fair should bring together 2,200 exhibitors and 600 young designers under the age of 35. Curated by architect Stefano Boeri, this ultra-special anniversary edition, the SuperSalone will bring together all product categories for the first time, and many design personalities will make the trip. In addition, the Euroluce (lighting) and Eurocucina (kitchen and bathroom) events will be held at the same time.
