BAU, the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, is the largest and most important event in the industry. Due to the COVID 19 worldwide pandemic, the next BAU will take place from January 13-15th, 2021 as an online event. Exhibitors can showcase their innovations and present themselves to a global audience.
In January 2019, BAU presented architecture, materials and systems for commercial, residential and interior design in new and existing buildings on 200,000 m² of exhibition space. BAU is the only trade fair of its kind in the world to bring together the market leaders in the sector every two years for this comprehensive exhibition. For 2021, you can check out the full online schedule here but here’s a preview of some of the themes/discussions:
The construction industry after coronavirus
How is the coronavirus crisis changing architecture and urban planning? How is the crisis changing the construction industry? The answers to these questions will lead to changes in architecture and urban planning. New ideas for work locations, meeting places and other buildings change the demands on planners, contractors and the industry.
When ? Wednesday, 13.01.2021, 10 am to 12 noon.
Homes of the future
Housing construction has been in political focus in Germany and many other countries since 2015. Despite great efforts, it has not yet been possible to create a sustainable increase in the number of completed dwellings and achieve the political goals. At the same time, there is a growing shortage of affordable housing. We show possible solutions to these problems based on innovative concepts and provide examples of their successful implementation on both national and international levels.
When? Wednesday, 13.01.2021, 10 am to 11.50 am and Friday, 15.01.2021 10 am to 11.50 am.
Challenge of climate change
For architects, engineers and the construction industry, building in a changing climate means mastering two challenges: One is the construction of climate-neutral buildings. The second is making buildings weather-resistant without requiring additional energy. These two challenges are supposedly mutually exclusive, yet we will show you some examples of how it can be made possible.
When? Wednesday, 13.01.2021, 3 pm to 4.50 pm and Thursday, 14.01.2021, 10 am to 11.50 am.
Resources and Recycling
The construction industry is responsible for more than half of all resource consumption and mass waste generation. This will have to change dramatically in the future. To achieve this, we need a fundamentally different construction process, different building products and building systems as well as a fundamentally different understanding of buildings. In the future, buildings will have to be planned, built and assembled in such a way that they can be dismantled and the components and systems reused. We show examples of where this concept is already a reality and illustrate strategies for the future.
When? Thursday, 14.01.2021, 1 pm to 2.40 pm
The range of products and services on offer is structured according to building materials as well as product and subject areas. BAU will address all those involved in the planning, construction and operation of buildings of all kinds. The numerous attractive events in the supporting program, including high-calibre forums with experts from all over the world, round off the trade fair program.
Despite the pandemic, this can be an excellent opportunity to network with other individuals in the industry.
